Cupcake & Thunder
Funded by the Small Enterprise Development Agency (seda), we really enjoyed creating a playful identity for Tara Balie, who was expanding her craft market-sold cupcakes and other confectioneries to include catering for small functions, children’s parties, anniversaries and the like. During the process of conceptualising a logo for her, we came across a story of a little girl who was afraid of thunder and lightning. Her granny tells her that the perfect cake, a “thunder cake” can only be made in such weather. Each time her granny sends her out to collect ingredients for the cake and each time she needs to face one of her fears before she can get the ingredient. The final ingredient needed to bake the perfect cake is a thunder clap.
During the presentation of the identity we relayed the story to Tara, who was amazed, as these fears in a very real way represented her fears of going it alone, taking her passion for good food to the next level.
Our work for her included the design of an identity, photography, creation of a basic, yet effective “one-page” responsive website, creation of fridge magnets and cake box stickers.
In April 2014 Tara catered for my 20th wedding anniversary party for 70 guests and many guests (some very fussy) said that without a shadow of doubt it was the best food they’d ever had at ANY event. Really contributed towards a memorable and hassle-free evening, dancing the night away…
