Knysna Woods
The coastal town of Knynsa developed around the timber trade. While wood may have been harvested indiscriminately in the past, strict conservation guidelines and Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC ™) principles now govern sustainable harvesting of indigenous timber. We were briefed to communicate these practises and to position Knysna Woods as a sustainable alternative to wood from further afield, often harvested without careful scrutiny and imported into South Africa as either cheap, or “desirable” stock. In one sense the project is educational, and in another created consumer demand for furniture made from local (smaller Carbon footprint), sustainable sources.
